November 13th: New Course Begins
Introductory Longsword Course
Starting November 13th, Appalachian Highlands Historical Fencing is proud to offer A Taste of Knighthood, our beginner-level class on longsword fencing. This two-month series offers new students a taste of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) with minimal commitment. No prior knowledge necessary, no particular athletic ability required, and no special equipment needed!
Over the course of nine weeks, participants will learn the history behind the medieval longsword as well as essential movements, basic principles, and foundational fencing techniques, all pulled directly from The Flower of Battle, the original manuscript written by the Italian sword master Fiore dei Liberi in 1410.
Students who complete the course may join our regular classes to study the knightly art of combat in its entirety and forge their own legend!
